How to Set Up Nameservers in cPanel & WHM Environment

Step 1: Access cPanel & WHM. (Best VPS Provider)

Log into WHM using your credentials.

Step 2: Initial Configuration.

If you haven’t set up your server yet, complete the initial setup process in WHM. This includes setting your hostname, IP address, and other essential settings.

Step 3: Basic Setup. (Low Cost VPS hosting)

Navigate to “Basic WebHost Manager Setup” under the “Server Configuration” section in WHM.

Set your primary nameserver (ns1) and secondary nameserver (ns2). These usually follow the format ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com.

Step 4: Configure Nameservers.

Go to “Nameserver Selection” under “Service Configuration” in WHM.

Select “Bind” as your nameserver software.

Click on “Configure Address Records” and add the IP addresses for your nameservers (ns1 and ns2).

Step 5: Edit DNS Zone. (Free VPS Provider)

Navigate to “Edit DNS Zone” under “DNS Functions” in WHM.

Select your domain from the list and click “Edit.”

Add NS records for ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com, pointing to the IP addresses you configured earlier.

Step 6: Update Registrar.

Log in to your domain registrar’s website and locate the section for managing nameservers.

Add ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com as your custom nameservers and point them to the IP addresses you configured.

Step 7: Propagation. (Best Web Hosting Provider)

Changes to DNS configurations take time to propagate across the internet. Please wait until propagation is complete for your nameservers to be fully functional.
